Good call. I agree totally about handpainting it.

About the trimming, I pick a special filmused helmet with a look I want and then try imitate that. The more reference it has the better.

Now the paint is dry and it looks good! I might have to paint a second time because at some places you can spot a little white through the gray. But the ears came out perfectly! And don't mind the little drips on the front top traps, the rubber goes over it so it is invisible ;)

Now to pictures!

I'm by no means a TK expert, but after sesong some beautifully painted helmets, I'd considered a second layer of paint. If you're using the grey Humbrol paint I've used that on my TS-to-be and you need a few layers for it to cover everything, which looks the best!

Now the second layer of paint is on. Looks much better now! I think I'm ready to start painting all the black things on the helmet now. Is it enough to use a hairdryer when bending plastic? Because i don't own a heat gun.

Pictures of second layer of paint, all around the helmet.

What do you want to bend? When heating plastic you really need to know what you are doing, don't get it warped or anything. (probably you get better advice over at FISD.) :)

I read somewhere that someones belt or thigh boxes cracked when they bend it around either waist or thigh, so that was why i thought i had to heat bend it. But i got some tips from Mathias, and he said that i wouldn't have to worry not heat bending the stuff.

Belt is best done adjusting the belt around you and measuring the attachment points when it's around you. It will stay a little curved when finished, but it certainly doesn't crack. Ammo box on the right thigh depends on the maker, how it's best done, but it's good thing you have the problem covered!

The only things i miss on the helmet now are Hovi mic tips and the black rank stripes on the ears. Then it is complete!

P.s. If anyone got some spare Keith's Hovi Mic Tips i would gladly help you getting rid of them :3
