WIP - TIE Reserve Pilot - First build

Post by fox3455 »

Hello,

I am in the progress of building my first uniform, and for price sake, I am starting with a TIE reserve pilot. I have a few issues I am facing. I have ordered several pieces from Wampawear after much research. I am worried about ordering a flight suit. I am 163 CM, and I do not know how to measure my size with my stiff tape measure. I was considering buying my flight suit from Wampawear since most of my kit is from there (I.E., hat, gloves, and belt). Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated! (I almost posted this in the Jolly Roger Squadron, but I thought about asking the garrison might have a locality advantage.)

Kind regards,
-fox3455 (tie-pilot)

Welcome aboard!

I'd say you have two options:

1. Go out and get yourself a proper tailoring measuring tape. Doesn't cost much. I See you are in Sthlm so you could go to Ohlssons on Sveavägen:

I don't have one at home or I'd offer to meet you somewhere and sort it out :)

2. Find a pattern somewhere online and make your own.

If you're not good at sewing (I'm terrible at it) then I'd recommend getting one made by people who know what they are doing. Yes, it costs more but the results are almost always better.

I know zero about TI costumes so I won't comment on whether Wampawear are the best or not.

Good luck!

Also, while you are working on your costume, why not become a Supporter? Come by an event and say hi and we'll get you going. You'll also get a chance to look at various costumes up close.

I am mildly new to Sweden (moved here in May 2017 but still learning where everything is.) If I could get help measuring, I have no qualms picking up the tape measure, as that would be great help. I'll buy coffee, haha.

I was looking at the calendar and did not see anything in Stockholm for the next several months. I would love to come and support while I put together my own uniform. Is there anything happening sooner, or should I just keep checking the calendar?

Thank you for the response!

Hurray, another foreigner. I approve! Where are you from?

Not a coffee drinker but I’m sure we can work it out.

The website isn’t 100% up to date with events. I’ll check what’s coming up :)

There are several makers for the flightsuit, Ill check a few up with links here for you..

And you also have
Wampawear (they work alright)
Cosplaysky (It aint perfect and could need some restitching)

There are several more but these are the ones I came up with in my head.

A small from wampawear should fit you fine unless you are on the portly side. Im 170 and 81 kg, and the small is just a tad to short and slim for me. Good quality from what ive seen, and it has the details needed.
I think It would be difficult and timeconsuming to get a better quality siut for less money to be honest.

I bought myself the fabric to make a new and slightly larger suit, but my sewing skills are not even remotely good enough.

Thanks for these links! I'll chase them down. They look like some good flight suits, though it would seem the Facebook link run is done for the next couple of months. How did you mean Wampawear "work alright?

This was a perfect thing to hear! I have a small stomach, not huge. I am roughly 68kg at 163cm. Hearing one from Wampawear should fit is great news. always nice to hear from another pilot as well. Thanks for the feedback!

UPDATE!!

I got my hat, gloves, belt, and compad in from Wammpawear yesterday! I only need boots and flight suit and I should be approvable! I do need help cutting my belt to regulation if anyone would be willing to give me advice or help with that process.

(Sorry about my messy desk)

Very excited! I think after some comments here that I will order the flight suit from Wampawear as well to keep everything matching. But any boots advice will be great. I will be watching German eBay as well to hopefully find some.

Kind regards,
