New tie pilot recruit signing up

Post by 4N0K4R » 14 Sep 2017, 12:14

Hi. Just ordered my own tie pilot armour and helmet of ebay. It is made of abs plastic and the seller is Mudder1971. He has got good feedback on all of his armours. Now back to me.
Well my name is Andreas and I live in Kalmar. It has always been a dream for me to have my own tie pilot costume. The thing that finally got me to buy one was that I also play the x-wing miniature game and I am also holding official tournamnet in that game. So I thought it would be perfect to have an armour on tournamnets. Now to my questions about building the helmet and armour together. What glue do you use? And how do you assemble the helmet? I have seen on Youtube that they put it together with screws, but if that is the case how do you hide them afterwards?

Hello Andreas!

E6000 is the tried-and-true glue.

As far as I know (not very far) the TIE helmet has four screws; two on each of the side parts connecting them to the faceplate. One is in the upper corner next to the mohawk, the other is down by the ear piece (and sometimes covered by it (?)).

Are you planning on joining the 501st? If so I'd start by doing some research on your kit to find out how accurate it is. I don't mean to be negative, but 501st suppliers generally don't use Ebay and a lot of the stuff sold there isn't up to 501st standards (sometimes even if the seller claims it is). That usually doesn't mean it can't be approved, but it might require some work.

A good place to do this research and/or learn how to build your kit is the Jolly Roger Squadron forum. JRS is the TIE pilot detachment and home to most things TIE in the legion. http://www.jrs501st.com/forums

I'm going to try to get it to the standards of 501st legion. I have searched around a little how to build it, but it is not 100% clear for me yet but I will keep on searching because I dont want to ruin it when I have put that amount of money in the suit.

Yeah I have heard about that you have done that, because the grand master of tournaments (Patrik in Uppsala) told me, beacuse I like the idea of combine them. :)

You assemble the helmet with screws yes! BTW welcome to the madness, if you are going to the scifi-fair this weekend, head over to the NG booth and have a talk with us!
